Every Monday: Breakfast, ID BBN style

Monday morning is one of the busiest mornings at ID BBN’s Turku office, since we have our weekly office meeting at 9:00 sharp. But the busyness (pun intended) starts way before that.

Each team has a breakfast shift early Monday morning, every six weeks. This innocent-sounding coffee & tea with bread, cheese and cold cuts type of thing gradually evolved into a MasterChef ID BBN rivalry. Nowadays there is a fierce battle between the chefs.
 

How good is it?

Oh, it’s good. So far we have indulged in bacon and eggs, sausages with onion and potato salad, French toast, mixed cereal, sour dough bread, different types of pies, stuffed croissants, porridge (hot and cold), fruit plates, curds and berries (for the fitness people) and all types of yoghurts and smoothies. Some people have a faint memory of a Japanese-themed breakfast…and even Mimosas! One team “cheated” and ordered the whole feast from a restaurant. No disapproval was expressed, though.
 

Does everybody come?

The Monday morning meeting is mandatory for everyone. But really, why wouldn’t you come? If you are not able to make it in person, you must attend online. We are allowed to work remotely at other times, but on Monday morning is when we gather together. It’s a lovely way to start a new week, meet people face to face, catch up, eat well and hear the latest ID BBN news and presentations.

We also sing Happy Birthday almost every Monday, since the birthday people of the week are acknowledged and given a pressie. And when someone has done extraordinary well, he/she is given a pair of Happy Socks.

And of course, Monday brekkie is how we find out who the best chefs are at ID BBN…
 

Is there wine or champagne involved?

We did have Mimosas once. And we do keep wine and bubbly in the fridge, but they are for Friday afternoons…

 

One of the latest favourites breakfast recipes is Tiia’s overnight oats:

1/4 cup uncooked old-fashioned rolled oats
1/3 cup skim milk
1/4 cup low-fat Greek yogurt
1–1/2 teaspoons dried chia seeds
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Refrigerate overnight

 

Garnish with berries and fruit and voilá!
